Steve grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area. At age 8 his mother took him to see the Benny Goodman
story and he just had to play clarinet. His parents were very supportive of his musical desires and has played clarinet, saxophone, guitar and bass guitar in school bands and other bands.
Starting in high school he began playing in bands, first playing sax and later moving to bass. He played
bass with groups in the Bay Area at any locations, most prominently with a group named Birth. They played Fillmore West and the Cow Palace, opening for Santana, Steppenwolf, and many others. When not playing music, Steve could be found taking in concerts at Fillmore West and other venues where he saw many groups before they became famous (You may remember Cream, who introduced Eric Clapton to the US. He once got them to play a song by request!)
He met Rita in 1982, and they were married in 1985. They always liked working together, and even when working at different places for a while one would eventually come to where the other one was. They have now had their own business doing title research for over 14 years.Steve has been married to Rita for almost 30 years. They are proud grandparents of Christopher and Samantha Mitchell. Christopher is currently serving our county in the US Army.
When they arrived in Sparks in November 2004 Steve hooked up immediately with a local band called the Paisley Braincells, and soon found himself playing Grateful Dead songs on 4th Street.
In Minden in 2008 he saw a flyer for the Carson City Barbershop Show and decided they would attend. When calling for tickets he met Rook Wetzel who, upon hearing that he had done some singing, directed him to the Silver Dollar Chorus. He soon became a member and has not looked back.
